The various types of custody:
Physical custody:
Physical custody is when a parent has the right to have a child live with him or her. In some cases there is also joint physical custody where the child has spend significant amount of time with both parents.
Legal custody:
Legal custody meaning having the right of a child’s major decisions like schooling, medical care, religious upbringing.
Sole custody:
Sole custody is when the custody of a child is given solely and independently to one parent. The court may do this when it thinks that the other parent is deemed unfit which may have a negative impact on the child
Joint custody:
Joint custody is when both the parents share the decision making responsibilities for the child.
